stefan salvatore is the main charecter he was turned in 1864 and he has a brother.

when he was turned he went on a ripper rampage and then he learned to control it.

ELENA GILBERT:  She is a main character as well she is a doppelganger of kathirna patrova  and she was adopted her real mother is isobel Fleming and her father is her uncle john Gilbert. as kathirna said to her she has the patrova fire and that she was born to be a vampire and in s.3 she dies and she wakes in s.4 

DAMON SALVATORE: Damon is Stefan's brother. he is a true ripper he doesn't feed on animals like Stefan he can sometimes keep it under control but he cant sometimes. he loves his bourbon   he goes to mystic grill to have the glass of it and he loves compelling  people.

elena had a vision one night that she was with Damon and that they were in mystic grill playing pool and she thought she had feelings for him and when she turn they gave her vampire blood and it was Damon's now she is sired to him.
